Dual wavelength Doppler Radar in the Tropics

MRL-5 is a powerful dual wavelength radar. There most be some of them in the Tropics (I guess: Viet Nam, Brazil, and Cuba of course), and some others near the Tropics: Argentina, South Africa. The novelty now is that very soon, we will put into work a Dual wavelength radar, Doppler in both channels (X and S bands)! based on the old MRL-5. With its vertical polarized X-band, and its horizontal polarized S-band, undoubtedly this new Doppler radar will be a powerful tool to study tropical atmosphere, and…Home made by ourselves!!!. Some of the radar parameters will be:  X-Band

Transmitter’s Peak power: Up to 300 kW;  Pulse Widths: 1.0 & 2.0 microseconds; Pulse Repetition Frequency: 250-1000 Hz; Receiver’s MDDS: -110 dBm; Receiver’s bandwidths: 1.0 & 0.5 MHz; Antenna Beam width: 0.5 deg. Antenna Gain: 49 dB.

S-Band

Transmitter’s Peak power: Up to 1000 kW;  Pulse Widths: 1.0 & 2.0 microseconds; Pulse Repetition Frequency: 250-1000 Hz; Receiver’s MDDS: -112 dBm; Receiver’s bandwidths: 1.0 & 0.5 MHz; Antenna Beam width: 1.5 deg. Antenna Gain: 40 dB.

Isn’t it a beauty? We’ll be waiting for a good hurricane this season!
